On the sixth day of April 2003, two women, one in Texas and the other in Tennessee decided to create an organization despite the distance between them. They worked long days and nights to form an organization that catered to mothers aspiring to improve themselves and their children. They wanted to design a sisterhood promoting self-improvement, community service, and higher education. They also wanted to create a sisterhood for women to express and share their joys and pains of motherhood, children, and women's health and rights issues. 

With all these things in mind, Sigma Beta Xi Sorority was created, and HerStory began.

The two founders donned "The Guiding J.E.W.E.L.S.," which laid the foundation for this illustrious organization. Guiding J.E.W.E.L. Kapreia Sharif and Guiding J.E.W.E.L. Karon Wisdom toiled long and complex research on Greek life, its origin, and other organizations. They recruited a few friends to help along the way. These two women also revered the purpose of Sigma Beta Xi. They were donned "The Sapphire J.E.W.E.L.S.." With the assistance of these two intelligent and dedicated women, Sigma Beta Xi Sorority was becoming a reality.
